If today were my last day on Earth and I could share 500 words of brilliance with the world, here are the important things I'd want to pass along to others...

This moment, right now, is all that you can truly know. Regardless of what you may have done in your past, or the fears that you may have of the future, give thanks that you are here now.

You are beautiful and deserve to know the gift that you are to the world. Honor the mistakes you have made, for everyone makes them, but seek the lessons that they may have to teach you.

There is only one you. No matter how many people you compare yourself to, or how much you try to please others, no one can ever be who you are, as you can never be who they are. Honor the path that you have traveled, be proud of who you are in this moment, and give thanks for the opportunity to have another day.

Life will not be easy, you will be hurt, you will lose loved ones, your finances, relationships, jobs, living arrangements, and physical appearance will all change. No matter what may occur in your life, good or bad, know that it is a part of the greater good in why you are here.

Identify what you want, what you want achieve, and what your dream is. Not just any dream, identify your burning desire; the one dream you may or may not think is attainable. The one dream that no matter what someone says or does, no matter what obstacle is placed in front of you, and no matter how long it takes, you will achieve. Identify the one dream you MUST achieve for you!

We all have one, some of us have two, and others have many... Identify one.

And then do whatever it takes to achieve it! Whatever it takes, go back to school, borrow money, ask for help, beg your friends to support you, fail, fail again, and fail twenty more times. Just keep going, keep going after your dream. Remember this is the one dream you identified! This is what makes you.... You! And no matter what happens, no matter how long it takes, it's worth it, because this is your one dream!

And once achieved, once you have completed your journey, look around... Enjoy the moment; think about ...

I am sitting in a self-development workshop the year is 1989 and I am 52 years old. The leader asks us to think of three things we'd love to do before we die and likely never will. My "Bucket List"...climb Kilimanjaro, climb the Matterhorn and see Everest Base Camp. What, I'm not a climber? Little did I know where those wishes would take me.

Fast forward to May 22, 2007. It is 8:08 in the morning and I am standing at 29.035' on the top of Mt. Everest, the world's tallest mountain. Aside from two (2) Japanese I am the oldest person in the world to do so. Since 2002 I have now stood on the highest point on each of the seven (7) continents.

I reflect . . . what does all this mean and what have I learned along the way. Clearly, it's not normal for a person, just two months shy of his 70th birthday, to have climbed to the top of the world. But then, what is normal, other than a perception we collectively have bought into and now believe as true? Aren't the only limi...

How to Rule the World from your Couch

I have heard the term "uncertain times" used too frequently in the last year. When were times certain? In business and life it is always essential to be pro-active, plastic, and prepared. We should never assume that things are "certain," because this will only set us up for a great fall. In business, and especially in an economic downturn, it is the intuitive company that thrives. Those actual "out of the box" ideas thrive in unsettled times. It's not worth waiting for miracles to happen, or things to get better. You must create the future on your own terms.

How to Rule the World from Your Couch was my answer to the companies that asked me for a linear guide to a non-linear process: intuition. Sun Tzu, the Chinese military sage said, "Every battle is won before it is ever fought," and I couldn't agree more. An integrated, intuitive process allows each of us to be a well-prepared, successful lea...

You know the key to A Brilliant Life as I see it , is to always, always, always listen to yourself first. We all have our own unique guidance system within us that comes from the spirit side of us. It is there to keep us on track to our own unique destiny. Often the road along the way doesn't resemble where we want to go, so we think we are on the wrong road... However, it is just the trip there, and of course it doesn't resemble where we will end up, because we're not there yet. If you plan a trip to London and stop in 4 other countries on the way there, none of them will look like London, but you are still on track to get to London are you not? So, stop judging the trip, and just enjoy it, you will arrive at your true destination in due course. ...

My Brilliance by Dave Boufford

One of my favorite quotations about life's teachings comes from Thomas Carlyle, who said "Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood."

So, here's what I've come to know:

Take care of yourself as best you can. Daily exercise, relaxation and nutrition are vital for optimal performance in every area of life. Do your best and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Love is what makes life worth living. I believe learning to love is the most important skill we can develop in our lives, and yes I strongly believe it's a skill that must be learned. I think it's the reason why we are born - to love and be loved.

Give until it hurts. That's my motto and sometimes it does hurt - especially when others take advantage. But give anyway! Giving is the other part of receiving, and I've found that helping others always comes back to me multiplied.

Learn to be interested in others and ...

That the most important things in life are free. That as long as I never forget that my spiritual life comes before my material life, I will be Ok. That I should never judge a person for the color of his skin, his/her faith, the car he drives, or the clothes he wears: who knows, maybe he/she is just a victim of circumstances. That when you speak to someone, always do it looking him straight to his/her eyes.

That fear is just a state of mind, and nothing else. That I should be aware of how I see the world, because the world will be exactly as I see it. That a problem is not a problem, just an opportunity to learn the lesson and become wiser, stronger.

That everything in life is borrowed, only my dreams and my life belongs to me. That when the day comes to leave this beautiful planet called Earth, the only things I will be able to take with me are the memories of the things and dreams I achieved, and the only things I will be able to leave ar...

What I have learned is that we are all infinite beings with infinite power, abilities and access to infinite amounts of love.

Look at nature and see how abundant it is, with plants, trees, birds, flies, animals abound. The same amount of abundance is available to each and every one of us.

We are all infinite beings, we are equal, not better than, not worse than, but we all still have a unique essence (flavor). As an individual you matter. You add something to the mix called life that only you can add. Honor that. Honor you. Know with every fiber of your being that you are valued and loved beyond words.

The best thing you can do for anyone, including yourself, is to adore you, your body, and your life. Adoring yourself will allow you to receive the greatness of who you really be. Through being that greatness of who you truly be you will positively effect your environment just by breathing.

What is your job here? Your job is to be the best that you can be. How...

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." Dr. Suess. My 12 year old daughter Noelle has a confidence about her that is unprecedented for her age. She decided that Fridays would be crazy high sock and converse tennis shoe day. She tried to solicit her friends to go along with her in this notion, but, they bailed on the idea and left her the only one in school wearing loud high socks and converse tennis shoes that first Friday of 7th grade. One popular kid came up to her and made a snide remark about her crazy look. Noelle simply told her that she must have missed the memo on how cool crazy socks and converse tennis shoes were, and walked away. The girl was stunned and even appeared embarrassed that her attempt to demean Noelle had failed. Noelle still wears crazy high socks and converse tennis shoes on Fridays. Some days she's the only one, but no one gives her attitude about it.

When I was in school, there was so much ...

As a life long learner, one of the most important things I can share with you is the power of the simple act of forgiveness. I want to share this piece of "Soultry", because it really brings the act of forgiveness to life.

For Ever & Ever
Sometimes it's hard to take things in your stride,
To turn the other cheek, look away, and swallow your pride.
But some people strike out in their anger and pain.
And we must forgive them, again and again.
Try to understand, that although it's not okay
It's not your job to make them pay.
Give them the benefit of what you know.
Show them love, and help them to grow.
You see, bitterness and anger only fuel the fire.
It's to love and happiness that we all need to aspire.
If you try to find the good in all that you do
You'll find it will reflect right back at you.
Material things are great to get and to give
But they are not the reason that we all live.
It's those...

Getting Over It

Maya Angelou writes, "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."

Life is a winding road and it takes us places we do not plan or want to go. While on it, we will find ourselves faced with challenges that test our endurance and belief systems. We will have our ups and our downs. The good news is that troubles can encourage or prompt us to discover some of the greatest successes of our lives.

Before exploring ways of getting through the struggle, I will start with the end in mind and some possible outcomes. Trailblazers often emerge as the result of a crisis they have successfully navigated. Troubles teach us things we did not know and help develop new levels of awareness. As the metamorphosis occurs, you achieve what did not seem possible. And on the other side of the experience, you may be transformed and better able to meet new challenges. Pioneers have found in themselves wh...

1. Here today, gone today live life now! Security is an illusion so seize life today.

2. Follow your inner compass - your intuition. When you commit to the journey, you will always end up in a place you describe and recognise as better than your starting point. For me intuition is a feeling I get in my stomach that a certain course of action should be pursued- normally it makes no sense from a rational perspective! For others it is a compelling inner voice - for others it is an inner voice that sends them on their journey. The key is to find out how your intuition delivers - on identification, use it as your compass. The more you use it the stronger this "core muscle" works.

3. Don't commit your dreams and aspirations to the "normal" pros and cons approach - remember in the context of your dreams, knowledge will always give you enough reasons not to act.

The greatest lesson I have learned is that our mind greatly affects our reality. Many feel that their past defines who they are but the truth is we can decide in the next moment who we will be. Our life can begin over NOW.

By the age of 6 most of our automatic programming has already been instilled. Messages from our parents, neighbors, community and family define us. When we are not consciously making decisions we often fall back on those messages to get through life. It becomes our "automatic pilot" and we react unconsciously instead of consciously responding to situations and events occurring in our daily life. We all have the power to recreate ourselves and the first thing is to truly listen to the messages you send yourself. Turn the noise off for a half hour - cell phones, MP3 players, TV's and truly listen.

WE are the ones causing our own limitations and in hearing and getting to know the true us; our soul, we become limitless. Learning to love...

It's Your Choice

Have you heard these sayings before?

• "You'll keep getting what you're getting as long as you keep doing what you're doing!"
• "The insanity principle is doing the same thing but expecting different results!"
• "If nothing changes, nothing changes!"

These statements all pertain to personal power; reinventing oneself and change. More importantly, they all pertain to choice. You have to choose to change YOU.

Throughout my life, from childhood through college, corporate career to business owner, wedding day to divorce court, I've encountered people who were in situations they loathed but, for whatever reason, chose not to change how they responded to or viewed the situation. In most instances, the situation or circumstances never changed and neither did the people because most of them kept expecting the circumstances to change. We have to be the change.

Would you agree that most peopl...

The most important thing to me is to always have pride in yourself and be authentic, whatever that means to you personally. If everything else in the world were to go away- the money, the titles, the material possessions- make sure that you can stand behind your name and your decisions. Your name and the way you act are your legacy. If you do something, do it 100%; if you say something, stand behind what you say. Be willing to tell someone the truth that they may not want to hear (if asked and it comes from good intentions). You may piss off some people along the way and that is good- everyone with a strong point of view does!

I also think it is incredibly important to be driven to fulfill your needs and goals based on your own circumstances and opportunities. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should and that the rewards will justify the risks for you. You will be happiest if you live your life based on your own wants, needs and opportunities, not someon...

I used to be a little insane, just a bit crazy.

Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

That was definitely the insane and crazy me. Then I realized if I wanted my results to be different I needed to change my behavior.
I learned that three things could change my results, and my life:

1. Desire...you need to really want to change.
2. Commit...make the commitment to yourself and to really add power commit out loud to someone else.
3. Persist...NEVER give up until you make the changes, until you reach the goal, and are enjoying different results.

At age 60, I took up running. I started to make small changes that gradually improved my fitness level, and I eventually ran a 5K for the first time in my life. I actually had the fastest time in 60-65 yr old women's category...

Well...maybe there were only two of us in that age group...but I was ...

The truth is, everything I've learned about life has come from my autistic child.

Be who you are:
William has never pretended to be something he isn't. He tells people he is different. Why does everyone try to "fit in" when we were born to stand out? And he definitely stands out. At 6'3", handsome, faithful and highly intelligent, William never waivers from the truth of who he is and what he has overcome. He never fails to pray quietly over his meals. He stays late at school. He helps others even when it limits his own free time. He spends his weekends in retreat from other people (aka alone). When he's angry, he shows it. When he's tired, he shows that, too. William lives very happily in his own skin.

Say what you feel:
On his trip to eastern Europe, William traveled with a group of students who were very different from him. We live in beautiful, mountainous West Virginia, and the kids he traveled with were from cities in New Jersey. Wi...
